Harvest [08/2009]

Project Harvest investigates the notions of private property, law and government. It is aimed at overcoming the estrangement between subject and object, which is caused by the very existence of such restricting conditions as government and law. In this project the considered problem also becomes the production method. Therefore, the categories of private property and law become the reality.

In a week time I fully reproduced a complete agricultural algorithm. First I chose a patch of land in a field and cultivated the land (cut the grass, uprooted the weeds, dig up and raked the land). Then I put seeds of watercress into the soil. While looking after the crops (watering them, removing bad grass), I started building a fence around "my" land. When the fence was strong enough and crops were mature, I robbed myself of my own harvest by climbing over the fence I had built and destroying it. This transgressive act of robbery was a way to overcome the logics of estrangement imposed by government and law. It is also a way to become a real owner of something that you posses.
